Japanese Folding Patchwork
When you are making Japanese Folding Patchwork you fold the fabrics and sew. Following the same basic technique, a wide variety of shapes can be made. Sewn together they can be used to make baskets, bags, quilts and much more.
If you prepare the blocks at home, Japanese Folded Patchwork is posible to sew when you go on holiday or when you are watching television.
When you have made a block in Japanese Folding Patchwork, you have made the backing too. The blocks can have different shapes. It depends of the model you are sewing.
For a block you need two templates.
One for the backing/edge fabric and one for the front side fabric and for the batting. The templates are used for pressing too.
You have to cut the backing/edge fabric with seam allowance.. Cut the front side fabric and the batting without seam allowance.
Press the seam allowance around the template with you iron.
Remove the template and place the other template. (How you have to place it depends of the pattern, you are making).
Press the backing/edge fabric around the template.
Remove the template and place the batting and front side fabric instead.
Pin and sew with running stiches along the fold through all the layers.
Quilt the blocks.
When you are sewing the blocks together, you may use these fine stitches. The stitches look the same on both sides. The stitches look great when you are using a contrast colour.
When you are sewing th blocks together, the blocks should be facing each other. You can choose front side against front side or backing against backing. The stitches look the same on both sides.
